함께 서서: 나의 '세계 여성의 날’ 집회 참여기

서울에서 열린 제41회 3.8 세계 여성의 날 기념 한국여성대회에 '인권 캠페인 활동' 프로그램으로 쉼터 활동가들과 여성들이 참가했습니다. 여성과 소수자의 권리를 위해 모두가 함께 연대했던 이 날의 현장을, 여성이 직접 작성한 참여 후기를 통해 전해드립니다.
3월 7일 서울에서 열린 제41회 3.8 세계 여성의 날 기념 한국여성대회에 참가한 것은 정말 뜻깊고 영감을 주는 경험이었습니다. 하루 동안 우리 동료들과 활동가 쌤들은 부스를 둘러보고, 함께 피켓을 만들고, 카페에서 서로의 손피켓을 공유한 뒤, 기념식을 관람하고 행진에 참여했습니다.
한 부스에서는 동료들과 쌤들이 모두 함께 둘러앉아 피켓에 여성 권리에 대한 각자의 생각을 적었습니다. 저는 제 피켓에 "편견을 깨부수자. 여성들의 목소리를 들어라!"라고 적었습니다. 여성들이 때때로 불공정하게 평가받거나 능력이 부족한 것처럼 취급받는 것을 보고 느꼈기 때문입니다. 사람들이 편견 없이 귀를 기울여 준다면, 더 많은 여성이 자신감을 가지고 목소리를 낼 수 있을 것입니다.
가장 기억에 남는 순간 중 하나는 여러 단체가 깃발 퍼포먼스에서 각자의 깃발을 치켜올렸을 때였습니다. 각 단체는 깃발을 높이 들고 행진하며 집회에 참여한 우리 모두를 깃발의 바다로 둘러쌌습니다. 서로 다른 배경을 가진 사람들이 하나의 목적을 위해 연대하는 모습을 보니 소름이 돋을 정도로 감동적이었습니다. 사람들이 함께 모이면 변화가 가능하다는 것을 보여주는 강력한 일깨움이었습니다. 높이 솟은 형형색색의 깃발들은 마치 우리의 자긍심처럼 느껴졌습니다. 집회에 참여한 모든 사람들, 특히 여성들은 당당하게 일어서며 자부심으로 가득 차 있었습니다.
또한 '성평등 디딤돌상'과 '여성운동상' 수상자들의 이야기도 큰 영감을 주었습니다. 그분들의 경험과 투쟁, 그리고 성과를 들으며 세계 여성의 날의 의미가 더욱 뜻깊게 다가왔습니다.
특히 과거 성병에 걸렸다는 이유로 여성들이 감금되었던 건물을 지키기 위해 싸우고 있는 (동두천 옛 성병관리철거저지를 위한 공동대책위원회) 활동가분이 정말 존경스러웠습니다. 서울과 수원 여성의 날 집회 모두에서 열정과 용기를 가지고 발언하시는 모습을 직접 보았기 때문입니다. 여성들의 역사를 보존하고 정의를 옹호하기 위해 헌신하는 그분의 모습은 제게 강한 인상을 남겼습니다.
기지촌에서의 피해 경험을 직접 세상에 알린 생존자이자 활동가분도 정말 존경스러웠습니다. 그분은 정부를 상대로 오랜 세월 법정 투쟁을 벌였고, 결국 승소하여 피해를 인정받으셨습니다. 포기하지 않으신 것입니다. 행진이 끝난 후 활동가 쌤이 그분을 우리에게 소개해 주셨는데, 참 다정하신 분이라고 생각했습니다. 같이 대화를 나눠보니 정말 친절하고 따뜻한 분이셨습니다.
집회에 정말 많은 사람이 모였지만, 저는 단 한 번도 소외감을 느끼지 않았습니다. 곁에 쌤들이 계셔주셔서 마음이 편안했고 지지받는 느낌이 들었으며, 내가 진정으로 이곳에 속해 있다고 느꼈습니다.
이번 행사는 여성의 권리가 곧 인권이라는 점을 다시 한번 상기시켜 주었습니다. 모든 사람은 존중과 존엄, 안전, 그리고 평등한 기회를 누릴 자격이 있습니다. 이런 소중한 경험을 하고, 공통의 목표를 위해 함께 연대하는 수많은 사람을 직접 목격할 수 있어서 정말 감사한 마음입니다.
Standing Together: My Women’s Day Rally Experience
Attending Korea's 41st 3.8 International Women's Day Rally in Seoul on March 7 was a meaningful and inspiring experience. Throughout the day, our members and staff browsed booths, made posters together, shared the posters with each other at a café, watched the ceremony, and joined the march.
At one of the booths, all of our members and ssaems sat together to write our thoughts on women’s rights on posters. On my poster, I wrote “Break the bias. Hear women’s voices!” I wrote this because I have seen and felt that women are sometimes judged unfairly or treated as less capable. If people listened without bias, more of us would have the confidence to speak.
One of the most memorable moments for me was when different organizations raised their flags in the flag performance. Each organization carried their flag high and marched in the performance, surrounding all of us rally participants in a sea of flags. Seeing people from different backgrounds united for the same purpose gave me goosebumps. It was a powerful reminder that change is possible when people come together. The colorful flags were raised high. It felt like our pride. All of the participants at the rally, especially the women, were rising up and filled with pride.
I was also inspired by the stories shared by the recipients of the 성평등 디딤돌 award and 여성운동상 award. Listening to their experiences, struggles, and achievements made me appreciate Women's Day even more.
I really admired the activist that is fighting to protect the building where women were once incarcerated for having STDs. I admire her because I witnessed her speaking with passion and courage during the Women's Day rally in both Seoul and Suwon. Her commitment to preserving women's stories and advocates for justice left a strong impression on me.
I also admired the activist-survivor who spoke about her own story of abuse in the camptown. She spent many years fighting a legal case against the government and was eventually recognized after winning. She didnt give up. Our Ssaem introduced us to her after the march, and I thought she's very sweet. When we spoke, she was very nice and gentle.
Although there were many people at the rally, I never felt like an outsider. Having my ssaems there made me feel comfortable and supported, and I felt like I truly belonged.
The event reminded me that women's rights are human rights. Everyone deserves respect, dignity, safety, and equal opportunities. I am grateful to have participated in this experience and to have witnessed so many people standing together for a shared cause.
